Workshop on Water Technology Cooperation for the Belt and Road Initiative

CAS-TWAS CEWE organized a workshop entitled Key Action Plan on Water Technology Development and Industrial Cooperation for the Belt and Road Initiative on February 18, with the authorization of CAS International Cooperation Bureau. More than 50 participants from 7 institutes of CAS, 10 enterprises in water industry as well as Environmental Protection Parks of YiXing and YanCheng attended the event.
The Key Action Plan on Water Technology Development for the Belt and Road Initiative, illustrated by Director Zhang Shizhuang, Division of Asian and African Affairs, CAS International Cooperation Bureau, is to integrate all of the important resources inside and outside CAS. Not only would it assist the developing world to solve the major livelihood issues of water pollution and safety, but also accelerate the transfer of CAS developed technologies, and the “going-out” of Chinese enterprises. It is thus helpful for the establishment of the cooperative research network among CAS institutes and water industries.
Professor Yang Min, Deputy Director of RCEES, briefly introduced the experiences and perspectives RCEES had shared over the past several years in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative. He believed that the experiences, technologies and industrial capacities China accumulated over the last two decades could provide strong support to the countries along the Belt and Road in solving their water and environmental problems. He expected the formation of a government-industry-academy alliance through the implementation of the Key Action Plan on Water Technology.
The Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Institute of Hydrobiology, and other institutes of CAS presented respectively their own research background and advantages for the Belt and Road cooperation as a response to the Key Action Plan. The industrial participants all agreed that the Key Action Plan of CAS will provide good platform for their “going-out”, and they are looking forward to the close cooperation with the CAS institutes.
